Rainy Season is Here Again?

It has poured since yesterday afternoon. I have been drenched when I was going home last evening and coming to work this morning.

Dislike rain when I am either commuting to work or from work to home. I don't know if other girls have this experience. If your shoes are subject to rain and water very often, they tend to break more easily? I wonder if guys experience the same problem.

Is the rainy season here again?

Happy Chinese Valentine's Day

There are 2 lunar 7th month this year. Today is the 2nd Qi Xi. Qi Xi is the only day in the year where the cow herd can meet his beloved fairy. Fortunately for them, there are 2 Qi Xi this year.

Happy Chinese Valentine's Day to all. :-)

A Few Considerate Acts

Recently, there has been a spate of advertisements and reports on improving our customer services and the preparation for the upcoming Singapore 2006. Although I am fully supportive of such efforts, I am wondering whether there could be more emphasis being placed on the more trivial and day-to-day acts as well. The below incidents are some personal observations which I thought improvements can be made to enhance everyone's well-being and safety. Yes, there was no typo and you did not misread, I really mean safety.

Smoking in crowded places
I have always have such experiences. On a crowded pedestrian pavement, someone will be smoking while they are walking along the pavement. Anyone beside or behind this person will basically be inhaling great quantity of second hand smoke. It is a case of either you take in the second hand smoke or you just hold your breath for an extended period of time. The more you try to fan away the smoke, the more you will take in.

Suggestion: If possible, please try to contain your urge to smoke until you reach a more open space, especially if you are at a crowded pedestrian pavement where the rest of the people do not have any 'escape portion'.

Distribution of pamphlets or asking for donations at the escalator end
I perfectly understand that there is a constant 'traffic' along the escalators and asking for donations or distributing pamphlets to the users of escalators is the most effective and efficient. However, this can be dangerous especially when people who receive the pamphlets stop at the end of the escalator to look at the pamphlets. In some instances, there will be some mind-hearted people who will stop and search high and low in their pockets or wallets for loose coins. When there are alot more people behind them, this can cause a jam and it is dangerous when they have no way to go at the end of the escalator.

Suggestion: If you really need to ask for donations or distribute pamphlets at the end of the escalators, please stand further away from the end of the escalators to allow people to disperse when they reach the escalator end.

"Human Blocks"
Sometimes along a sheltered walkway where there are many people or pedestrians, there are some romantic couples who will be holding their hands and strolling along, totally oblivious to the delay they have caused to the rest of the commuters. This will not be an issue if you are not rushing for time, but unfortunately, the fast pace of Singapore means that most of the time we are fighting against time, even on weekends.

Suggestion: Please take a stroll perhaps in the parks and make way for the peak hour crowd.

Snapshots of a slightly blue Monday

Snapshot 1 - I got my first paycheque from my new job today. I am not joking, it is literally a cheque. I just banked in today, hopefully the cheque will clear soon. It comes sooner than expected. Initially, I thought I can only receive my first pay mid September. Next month onwards, the pay will be credited to my bank account directly. So excited!

Snapshot 2 - My whole body was aching badly today. Think I overstretched myself during the swim yesterday. I should not overexert myself at once especially when I have not exercised for a long time and when I am no longer 17/18.

Snapshot 3 - I felt abit restless today and could not concentrate very well. Not sure why but did not have a good sleep last night. Tonight, I shall sleep earlier and recharge for another hectic day tomorrow.

Sequel to Ladies' Dilemma Pt 2 - Stock Take

Since I have some time over the weekends, I have decided to do some spring-cleaning of my 'Shoe Department'. This is for me to find out where my shoes are placed after the house moving and what kind of shoes I have.

Horrors, of all horrors, I did not realise I have so many pairs of shoes until I did a 'stock-take'. Realised that most of the time I just wear that few pairs of shoes. Reason? Some are new and are for replacements of shoes almost, but not yet, broken. Will wear them once my existing pairs wear out. Some, I have worn once or twice, but have not dared to wear again because they cause sever blisters.

Here is a complete record of my shoes (excluding my sports shoes).

I have decided to throw away 2 of my most worn and of course, most comfortable, pairs. The ones that I am throwing away are the first 2 pairs. Think they look quite tattered, it's time to 'retire' them permanently. *Sob, sob*

Japanese Mochi - Kawai

Decided to play with my camera phone to 'familiarise' myself with its functions to avoid the fiasco last Sat. So decided to take some pictures and install the driver to see if I can download pictures on my phone to the PC. Managed to do it successfully. Hip hip hurray!

Here are some Japanese mochi which one of my best friend bought for us when she toured Japan recently. If you are wondering why only left with these, it is because we have opened all the mochi on the spot and finished most of it. For your information, the flavour is peach with a piece of peach wrapped in the middle of mochi. *Sheepish grin*.

Really take the hat off the Japanese with such beautiful wrapping. Anyway, it tastes as good as it looks. Since you cannot enjoy the taste, hope you enjoy the picture. ;-p

P.S. Kawai is "adorable" in Japanese.

Meaning of Blog's Life

Don't be too intimidated by the title. Don't worry, I am not about to launch into some philosophical theorems. Anyway, even if I want to do it, I doubt I am competent enough to do it. *Sheepish grin*

One of the issues we talked about during our girls' night out last evening was the purpose of the blog and whether one should or would share their blogs with people they are close to.

One of my friends commented that some people might not be as comfortable sharing their blogs because they might reveal alot of sensitive or intimate details in their blogs. If they knew that one of their friends may be reading their blogs, they might not be as comfortable expressing their truest thoughts. It was not an issue of one sharing unpleasant details of their friends but rather their friends might second guess or misinterpret what they have read. Such episodes would require substantial clarification thereafter. In order to prevent this, then one might not include their innermost thoughts in their blogs which caused the meaning of blogs to be lost.

Another friend added that some people might write alot of problems or 'complaints' in their blogs as a means to vent their fustrations. Hence, these would be negative readings for their friends. Why heaped your worries on your friends when most of the time, it would not help to alleviate the situation?

I totally agreed with their views and respected those who do not wish to share their blogs with their friends. Personally, I held somewhat a more different view from those I mentioned above.

I am more comfortable sharing my blog with my friends and people who know me than people I don't. This perhaps stems from my intention of having a blog:.
1) To capture some snapshots of my life, my experiences, my thoughts and emotions; and
2) To share some of the things happening to me or some the thoughts which are 'haunting' me.

Generally, men tend to be forgetful. We will forget more and more things as time goes by. This is important as it allows us to get on with life or we will forever be caught in the past. Thus, there should be some form of recording down your life, so that we can relive and remember some of the more important phases or events. Natural memories can fade, so we substantiate with man-made memories like photos, diaries, blogs etc.

No matter how close you are to your friends, you still do not see each other 24/7. So instead of being on the phone 24/7 to talk about what is happening to your friends, blogs can be an effective medium of sharing your life, happenings and thoughts, with all your friends. I always feel that I am missing out on a large part of some of my closest friends' life simply because we cannot see each very often.

Hmm, I may sound too idealistic above. Trust me, I am not. Since starting my blog, I have received comments and concerns from my friends. From reading my blog, they know what are some of the issues bothering me and what are some of the things I enjoy doing. This truly surprises me. When I share my initial entries with some friends, I have thought they will just read them as it was a novelty. Little did I expect them to continuously revisit my blog time to time. My blog seems to be the bridge which accelerates the understanding between my friends and me.

In case, you are wondering why I suddenly become such a prolific writer in a single day.... Well, I was inundated with a lot of thoughts today and wanted to pen them down and share with all my friends. Hope you understand me better from what you have read on my blogs.

Girls' Night Out

Had a very enjoyable evening yesterday with 2 of my closest ex-colleagues. We started off with a good working relationship and found that we could click pretty well with each other, so thereafter our relationship sort of elevated to friends. I felt that we are gradually becoming closer friends as we can now share alot of things with each other, including some of the things which may be closer to our heart.

Yesterday marked the first gathering we had since 2 of the 3 of us started our new job. We chatted for about 3 hours and felt that there was still alot more to be said. The whole night was filled with our hilarious laughter at each other's blunders. Alright, I admit, I am the butt of the jokes most of the time, as everyone is fully aware than being a very blur person with eccentric (I refuse to acknowledge it is poor) taste, I often created a lot of jokes on myself and for my friends. Hey, I provided free entertainment to them all!

At the end of the gathering, we all agreed that we missed each other very much. We made a pact that each of us will take turns to organise a gathering once a month for us to meet, chit chat and catch up with each other. Hmmm, I will have to wait about another month before I will see them again. Oh gosh, 1 month seems ages, how I wish that 1 month will pass quickly.

I guess it takes time to build up that kind of trust, ease of companionship and understanding with your new colleagues. I hope I will also be able to find such close friendships with my new colleagues. At the same time, I hope the friendship I have built up with my ex-colleagues will sustain for many months or years to come.

Team Building

My boss decided to generate some team building and invited the whole unit for lunch yesterday. This included 2 teams, with a total of 15 people, reporting to our big boss - our team which has 5 senior officers, 3 junior officers and my boss and the other team which has 3 senior officers and 3 junior officers. In the end, our big boss flew aeroplane on us as he had a meeting in early afternoon.

It was a hot afternoon and Swensen's aircon seemed not to be working. I tried the grilled fish sambal executive lunch set yesterday and highly recommended it. The set included a soup of the day, main course (the grilled fish sambal for me, you can choose from a variety of pastas and main courses), a beverage (tea, coffee or soft drink) and a dessert (ice cream lined with sponge cake). It was a filling course. Those who happened to work near Swensen's outlet or who happened to drop by Swensen on a weekday lunch should give it a try. We took about 2 hours to finish our lunch. Ooops! We overshot our lunch hour severely.

Thought this team building lunch was a good idea for everyone to get to know each other better in a more relaxed ambience. Kudos to my boss for coming up with this fantastic idea. We should have it more often. *Hint, hint*.

Ladies' Dilemma Pt 2 - Coordination Issue

I am not referring to motor coordination issue. I am referring to colour and style coordination issues. Issue which is at the top of all women's minds each morning while getting dressed to work.

Confess, all ladies out there! How many times do we get out in a rush or in a super bad mood and do not have time to 'properly' coordinate our dressing? We end up feeling extremely depressed and diffident the entire day just because we are either like a walking tree (green + brown combi) or worse, X'mas tree (red + green combi). Ok, I may be exaggerating a little on the tree combi, but there will be days where you may feel that your shoes are too strong a colour for your clothes or you have matched a dull bottom with a dull top and it makes you look placid. How you then wish you have the perfect style, confidence or figure to carry the whole ensemble off.

I was totally amazed my colleagues' style and abilities to coordinate their outfits everyday, notwithstanding their commitment towards their work and family, until our little chit chat during lunch today. The conversation started off on the purchase of shoes before drifting to the importance to replace a pair of shoes before it 'declared its last useful day'. This is because certain shoes go with certain clothes. By throwing the pair of shoes which is usually coordinated with certain clothes, you will not be able to wear those clothes for some times. Then they have also mentioned the importance of checking your appearance, including the matching of your shoes before stepping out of their houses daily.

I am totally ashamed of my slipshoddy attitude. I normally just buy white or black shoes, hardly venturing to other colours. The reason being that they are supposed to very versatile and easy to match. Even when I am wearing pale coloured clothes sometimes, I just grab my black, ribboned slippers which is the most comfortable pair. Perhaps, all the time, I have been a walking colour mismatch disaster!!!!

I must really buck up in terms of grooming up my appearances and say bye bye to my sloppy days. Good looks do not come free. Good looks or at least neat looks require efforts. Perhaps I should consider investing in a full length mirror so that I could check at least my clothes are properly coordinated first?

Ladies' Dilemma Pt 1 - Weight Issue

My mum kept stressing that I have put on weight recently. To tell the truth, I know I have put on weight significantly since I left my last job, from the tighter waist bands and sleeves of my clothes. This made me really depressed.

Why is it that girls, no matter how old or how vain they are or which era, will always constantly be bothered by their weight? It is either you are too fat or too thin, but never just nice. We always wish for smaller waists, hips and tighs these days. In the past, it was smaller waists and bigger hips. Despite the changing conventions and the frivolity of such, we are still trying to live our lives in accordance with conventions notwithstanding our higher education level and greater independence.

Sigh! Therein lies the troubles of all girls. Hopefully, I will not put in more weight. I must really make more conscious effort to watch what I eat and do more exercises.

P.S. To Cecilia, thanks for your concerns, I will definitely place more emphasis on my health than weight.

First Week Anniversary

Although this sounds abit cliche, time really flies.

My first week of work is already over. However, there are still alot of things to learn and absorb. I have started to do "real" work with the first quarter's P & L and July's main report for one of the departments to complete by next week. Still need time to blend in to the culture. Still felt very overwhelmed by some of the things to be done.

Felt somewhat ashamed that all the AEs (we call them EOs) here know much more than I do. In fact, was very impressed since day one as the AEs have to do the actual variance analysis and finish the report. As an accountant, my job is to review their work for submission. Wow, this working arrangement is quite different from my former place.

Moreover, one EO even questioned some of the 'old practices' and suggested that we improve some of the report's information and format. Wow, wow. This shows that she has really put thoughts into what she is doing and takes on initiative to improve.

Another EO can actually access all the reports in SAP with Tcodes. Hm, this is a feat which I admire as this really shortens the process. She is also the administrator for a number of systems that we are using. When I run into problem, before I said anything, she would have called up the IS Department and tried to help resolve the problem. Wow, wow, wow.

My peers are equally, if not more, impressive and helpful. When I run into both technical and business knowledge problem, my 'buddy' will spend time to discuss with me and even check with other people before letting me know.

All the above incidents somehow made me feel more welcome and assured that if I run into problems, there will be sufficient teamwork to help overcome it. Hope everything will keep going well. :-)

Attitude Matters

Was addicted to Kim Sam Soon. In case you are wondering who she is, she is a 29-year old Korean who is very true to herself. In alot of people's eyes, she is plumb and vulgar spinster. However, she was not defeated by conventions and continued to face the world with her candid and positive attitude.

Felt motivated by Kim Sam Soon. Her encounters, experiences and behaviours may be hilarious or uncouth to many, but she continued to lead her life in a ways truest to herself. Her positivism kept her going. She eventually overcame all odds and had a fairytale ending.

We should all aspire to be like her, ie maintained a positive attitude and outlook to everything. Once we keep an open mind and positive attitude, we will definitely have the capability to overcome all odds and still enjoy the process.

Try to catch the show if you can. :-)

Adventures - Back to Teenage Days

Don't have too high expectations. By adventures, it is not really something adventurous in the context of 'Famous Five' (Enid Blyton), it is perhaps something pretty much ordinary to most people's definition, but it is something that I seldom do.

Yesterday, I relived my life as though I am a teenager. Oops! Guess I really miss out on a lot of fun when I was young and now trying to make up to myself. *Grin*.

1) Idol Craze
It was more of an accident or rather coincidence than intentional. I happened to be at Plaza Singapura, at around 3 pm and happened to see alot of people. Louis Koo happened to be the new spokesperson of Osim's iMedic and he happened to preside the official launch of the product at Plaza Singapura. How many times in one's life can we expect so many coincidences to happen all at once? So, I decided to stay on, like all his other fans, to wait for his appearance for at least half an hour. All in the name of catching a glimpse of him in real.

I was not into much of idol worshipping or supporting when I was in school. Yesterday, I managed to get a feel of how it felt like.

Unfortunately, when I tried to capture him using my new mobile phone, I failed. Reason: being blur, I have not learnt how to store the pictures that I have taken, so there is no way to store those pictures. Sigh! What a waste!
2) Arcade
I used to hate the arcade for the noise and the crowd.

One of my friends has a 'craving' for bishi bashi yesterday. So we decided to look for a 'decent' arcade with a 'decent' bishi bashi game. My more arcade-wise friend decide to introduce us to a new game which is more fun than bishi bashi. Sorry, I don't really know the name of the machine, but it is indeed MORE fun than bishi bashi.

It is simpler, ie less buttons to press - only the start button, the rest is controlled by 2 joysticks. It can take your mind off stress because while playing, you are just concentrating on speed and coordination. Time flies in the arcade without my knowing. The noise which I normally detests also fades into the background. We behave like teenagers cheering each other on and laughing loudly.

Moral of the story? I must check with my friend what game that is, so that I can go back to the arcade for more. *Devilish Grin*.

3) Marina South Steamboat
I have been to Marina South for steamboat before, but it was more with family rather than with a big group of girls. It was still quite hard to imagine us doing this.

When we were at the MRT station waiting for each other, the people observed around us were teenagers. Some of them were even students of my friend. I guessed they would never imagine their teacher sitting with her friends on the floor with her friends, just like them. Hopefully, with this, they would believe that their teachers are really open minded people who can understand them and they should not be experiencing any generation gap with their teachers.

Well, back to the story of the steamboat. It was a fun night of 'battling with food'. being poor cooks, we somehow cannot tell whether some of the food is cooked very well, so we have tasted some half-cooked food. We also have quite a good scare by the rats that were romping around especially towards the later part.

4) Merlion
I have never imagined that the scenery at the Merlion was so beautiful at night. We again gathered like teenagers on the floor, giggled loudly over many failed attempts to light up the candles using matchsticks (none of us is girl guide) and singing birthday song with lots of claps.

It was indeed a tiring day, but it was real fun.

Hey all my friends, hope you have enjoyed yesterday as well as I do.

Settling in...

Today passed by in a flurry with more information to absorb.

There are some significant 'milestones' today.
1) I got my security pass - This means that I do not need to follow people in and out of office in future and I will not need to exchange my IC for a temporary pass everyday.
2) I got my internet access - This means that I will be able to access the web to do information searches and read emails.
3) I got my office mobile - Although I think it is a 2nd hand phone because it looks abit 'used' with scratches on the cover, it is nonetheless a 3G phone. Wow, it comes with built-in camera and video.

In terms of job wise, I am slowly picking up. There are simply too many technical terms and acronyms in terms of the products. For the accounting portion, there is also alot to learn as the underlying model is quite different. Fortunately, for some of MA experience previously, think the spreadsheets for evaluating business cases appear simpler than what we have for DCF. To qualify, this is ONLY in terms of the spreadsheet formulae. Perhaps the simpler the spreadsheets, the more complex is the thinking process?

Just heard a piece of not too exhilarating news, the big boss doesn't like people to dress down. Even though we are allowed to dress down on Fridays, guess I will stick to normal office attire for the time being... Sigh! Yet, I have so many pairs of capris which can only see the "daylight" on Sat or Sun. That is, if I do go out on Sat or Sun. :-(

First Day

After a short 2 weeks' break, finally it's time to start the engine roaring again.

Don't hammer me, 2 weeks really flew past. 2-week break after 4 years is definitely necessary and important. It gives the body and the mind sufficient rest and recharging for new challenges. Given a choice, I would prefer a longer break though it may come at a higher price to my pocket. ;-p

I have finally 'met' my new workstation, department, office and colleagues. The workstation is slightly smaller than my previous, but the orientation is better, ie I face outside, so will no longer have the 'danger' and discomfort of someone watching my back. The new office uses Outlook for emails which I have lost touch since my NTU days, so need to spend time getting used to it.

My boss and colleagues are quite open and friendly, though I only manage to lunch with 2 of them. We are a team of 6, including my boss.

My new boss was warning me about 'familiarity withdrawal' symptoms - withdrawal symptoms associated with losing the familiarity with the happenings and the comfort of old office. She is right, starting to feel a little when I was looking through the information at my workstation. However, it is important to maintain a cheerful and humble attitude and to keep an open mind, then we will definitely be able to overcome the 'familiarity withdrawal' symptoms.

As a new comer, I have already gotten into some action today by participating in 2 meetings, though more of an observer than a contributor. Although the meetings are held in the same room with the same business rep, we actually call to different countries. At the same time, there is also a lot of information to absorb, be it in the form of 'survival toolkit' for all employees (HR related), business information about the products, organisation structure and technical information about tools and models.

With so much 'action' packed into 1 day and with the engine not yet gotten into momentum, I actually felt excited but drained. There is more action tomorrow with more meetings and things to do. Wish me luck. :-)

Overindulgent

Saw my credit card bill today. Nearly fainted! This is the first time I have spent so much on buying things (other than holiday packages).

This is a sign - ominous sign. Perhaps it is not such a good idea to go on extended break too often, else it really has very dire consequences on your pocket. Fortunately, I am starting work soon so I will not have too much time to succumb to further temptations.

Sigh! Girls really cannot resist buying beautiful things, even if it is someone like me who doesn't usually pay too much attention to dressing up. I will need to avoid shopping centres for the next few months.:-(

Bliss

Just met my university friends 2 days ago in celebration of 2 of the girls' birthdays. Strangely, after we started working, we often just meet because it is someone's birthday celebration or wedding. Anyway, one of them announced that she was attached to someone. Finally. Really happy for her. :-)

She has always been one of the prettiest and sweetest girls among us. No offence to the rest, but personally felt that she is those which is very attractive to guys, ie medium height, slender, long hair, fair, with sweet voice. There were many guys around at one point or another who long to be her better half, but have failed to win her heart because they were either not sincere enough or did not have any chemistry with her. Hence, we have always curious who will be that lucky guy. We were exilarated when we heard this news finally.

Was chatting to another excolleague online yesterday. She was announcing to me she got attached also. Finally again and happy for her as well. She was a sweet and kind girl. A virtuous girl who I will go after if I were a guy. She sounded very shy but yet blissful when she was describing how they met before getting together.

Happy for my 2 friends who have found happiness.
Way to go for the 2 lucky guys who have managed to win their hearts. Hope you will cherish my friend with your heart.

Guilt

It's time to buy lots of birthday presents again. Hmm, I seem to have a lot of friends whose birthdays fall in the period of June to September. So, usually this period, I will be busy shopping, thinking, shopping and thinking of presents to buy.

July 29 was the birthday was one of my best and oldest friend - Huanxin. We have known each other since Sec One but managed to become closer only in JC. This year, she chose to spend her birthday in Japan with her husband-to-be. Fortunately for me, it means I have a few more days' grace to buy her belated birthday present.

With lots of help from her and little, if not nil, creativity from me, I got the 'inspiration' on what to get for her. She enjoyed making cards, so three of the friends, including me, got her stamps and ink pads for her to use on cards. That settled the gift itself.

The next problem was where to get them? Then, what sort of patterns would she like? Big or small? Long or short? Sigh! I practically know next to nothing. With a huge sense of guilt, I called her to get all the relevant help from her to succeed in the 'mission'.

Done. Bought the present, ready to be handed over to her this Sat. However, still can't shake off the huge sense of guilt.

Why is it that I seem to know so little even in terms of her hobbies? She is afterall one of my 'oldest' and best friend.
Has my job been too all-consuming that left me too exhausted and blase towards the people around me? Or is it simply because I have not made too much of an effort? I seem to be missing alot on the happenings and developments of my friends.
Will it be too late to do service recovery? I must really pace myself in terms of work and ensure that I have more time to be with the people who care for me. This shall be my mid-year resolution. ;-p

To all my friends, please forgive me. I promise I will put in extra efforts to safeguard our friendships.

Departure, A Way of Life

Was reading some of my colleagues' blogs, where my resignation was briefly mentioned. Felt touched that at least my leaving was something worth taking up an entry in their blogs.

Overwhelmed with sadness. Until today, somehow the reality of my leaving my first job somehow has not sunk in very well. It is still abit unbelievable and I still feel very attached to my colleagues, the environment and the job itself. Perhaps such strong emotions evolved from this being my first job or could it be that unknowingly, I have developed a strong relationship with the company and my colleagues. If it is the latter, I hope we can still maintain the good friendship even when we are no longer working together.

All the best to my ex-colleagues!

Long Live to Sincerity

Felt very touched and satisfied watching the Channel 8 Drama Serial "Love at 0 Deg Celsius" last night. Weixiang, the down-to-earth guy next-door, who was forever making sacrifices and standing by Yixin, finally won her heart. Hurray for him. The logic is simple - everyone will be moved and will like a sincere person.

Sincerity is the key to all relationships, be it with colleagues, friends, lovers or family. Everyone wants to be with someone sincere, regardless of the looks, the intelligence or the wealth of the person.

Felt utterly disappointed and let down by a friend. We agreed to watch a movie, or at least I thought we have agreed to watch a movie on a certain date, but he stood me up.

Disappointed and upset not because he could not make it. Of course, we can understand why everyone has commitments or sudden emergencies to handle and not being able to make it for a social outing is understandable.

Disappointed and upset because he did not bother to inform me about the change in plan. With today's advanced technologies, where everyone is either a SMS or phone call away, what perplexed me most was why he could not just inform me about the change. It was until I text him over MSN to ask him what time we were meeting before he had the courtesy to tell me there and then that he could not make it.

*Why did he not have the sincerity to tell me of the change in plan?*
*Why did I not detect a hint of sincerity from him into this friendship?*

Am I asking too much from a friend? I don't think so. Is he taking our friendship as granted? Perhaps.

I need time to get over this disappointment. Meanwhile, it's best we do not see or hear from each other.

2nd Glimpse of a Tai Tai Lifestyle

Day 3 of my break. It was another indulgent day with ample shopping.

Things that I have bought:
1) blue patterned skirt
2) blue tube top
3) pink blouse
4) green top

Wanted to buy a pair of red shoes but it was the last pair and in the wrong size.

Again, it was a day of pure bliss with so many conquests. However, started to worry about my credit card bill for next month.

Girls of a Faraway Times

Spent the whole of yesterday reading the novel known as "Empress Wu". The story depicts the life of the first empress of China. Having little if not no knowledge about China history, I was unable to tell if the story is merely fictitious or is true. Notwithstanding, it was still a captivating story.

Alot of characters and personalities can change when driven by circumstances. Empress Wu used to be a naive and idealistic person when she first joined the palace as a concubine. Driven by destiny, politics and the need to survive, she hardened and began to think for herself. She learnt to mask her true feelings and resort to treachery in order to avoid death. Gradually, historians came to view her as a ruthless leader. However, reading into her intentions, she did not mean to be ruthless, it was just a matter of surviving, which in some instances you need to step on or sacrifice others to do so.

Looking at what is happening in today's world, it can be quite reflective as well. No one chooses to be ruthless when they first started. The antagonists in life could also be driven by circumstances and their behaviours were just mere reflection of their survival instincts? This is really worth thinking. Maybe with this understanding, we can then forgive those people who have subject us to their treachery in their attempts to survive? Hmmm.....

First Glimpse of a Tai Tai Lifestyle

I spent my first day of freedom in utter, sheer indulgence... with late waking up, long shower, shopping and leisure eating...

It has been ages when you really feel like you are taking a slower pace and have time to admire the scenaries (sort of), though guess in my case it was more of mannequins. clothes racks and price tags. ;-p Weekend shopping is nowhere comparable as you always feel you are fighting against time, trying to grab hold of the remaining time of happiness which is slowly slipping away.

Perhaps it has something to do with the state of mind. When you are happy, everything looks fantastic and beautiful. Previous shopping expeditions yield very discouraging results. Everything I saw yesterday was beautiful and felt like buying them, even for the most unconceivable things, ie designs or things which I in my usual days will not consider buying...

Hmm, unfortunately I am not armed with unlimited access to cash, so must curb my urge to buy.... Regardless, I still managed to 'conquer' a jacket and denim skirt... Looking forward for a reason to wear them soon.

1st Day of the Break

Yippee!!!

After 4 years, this is the first time I truly felt liberated in some way, though I am not sure if "liberated" is too strong a word... What I am sure though is I DO NOT need to go back after the break to finish heaps of backlogs. It's time to start afresh.

Somehow when it's your first job, it is always different. The first of everything is always different and most memorable, just like graduation from primary school, your first love, your first exam, your first friend....

No matter what, I am still unable to wash away the complex feelings which have been within me. The need to break free and to explore and the pulling back of the people, the emotions and the environment. Perhaps, it takes time to adjust and move on.

Let's see how things will change in the next 2 weeks.... :-)
