Ratatouille

I scratched my head first wondering how to pronounce the word and what it meant. Was it English, Latin, French, Italian or German? I hoped the answer would unravel in the movie.

Remy was a rat which had a developed sense of smell. His passion for enjoying great food led him to want to make great food. He found his dreams at Gusteau, the famous restaurant founded by the French chef of the same name. When Remy’s talent was discovered by Linguini (reminded me of the pasta), Linguini decided to engage Remy’s help to ‘survive’ in Gusteau Restaurant.

The story was motivational. It highlighted the joy of finding and pursuing your passion. As long as you worked hard, dreams could come true no matter how far fetched they might look initially. If it was your dream, you should not give up easily despite facing many setbacks. Remy was chased, betrayed, belittled and even ostracized in his course of becoming a chef, but he never gave up. Success awaited you if you persevered. Success awaited Remy in the end when he cooked freely in his own restaurant.

By the way, Ratatouille was read as “rat-a-too-ee”. It was a french cuisine which was known as peasant food due to the inexpensive ingredients, mainly potatoes, in the dish.
