When you mention classical movie, some of the names that come to mind will be Gone with the Wind, Sound of the Music and even ET. The classical movie of the 90s should be Titanic.
Titanic was one of the most expensive movies being made and on one of the most tragic calamity of the sea. It The characters – Jack and Rose’s famous line of “You jump, I jump” and the flying pose have been emulated by many couples around the world. When the movie was first shown, many ferries have to bar couples who wanted to venture to the cordoned-off areas to relive the most memorable scenes in the movie.
Titanic was also one of those movies that have touched many people who had watched the movie many times. Some had even teared when Rose sent Jack down the deep cold sea so that she could fulfil the promise to Jack. My sister was one of those. For her case, she was more of accompanying me to watch after she has watched it with her friends.
This year marked the 10th year anniversary of Titanic. It was only when snippets of the show were used in one of the Mio TV advertisements that I realised that time flew.
10 years ago, I was still wearing school uniform. What were you doing then? 10 years ago, the most happening gadget one could have was a discman. Now, the latest gadget could be a PDA or even an iPod. 10 years ago, we were still using transitlink to commute via the bus and train. Now, transitlink has been replaced by easylink. The past 10 years have been plagued with economic crisis, epidemics, natural disasters. Let’s hope the next 10 years will be one that is filled with economic buoyancy, good health and stability for everyone.
