Peranakan Joo Chiat

Joo Chiat is very well-known for its food. Many well-known food places are concentrated in the Katong - Joo Chiat area, such as Katong Laksa, Awfully Chocz, Chilli Padi, etc. Yet, what captivated me most was the Peranankan shophouses with the elaborate carvings of the flowers and leaves that framed the facade. The bright colours reflect the rich culture.

At the end of Tembeling Road (near Haig Girls), I spotted two houses with one painted red and another painted white side-by-side. It was a striking contrast. At the same time, it bore a familiar resemblance to the postcard distributed by STB recently for their project postcard. When I came home and did a comparison, I realised they were not of the same scene.

Here's the picture of Tembeling Road for your comparison.
