New Love

Ever since Princess Hours ended its run, there is no highlight of the day for a while until this new series – “Hua Yang Shao Nan Shao Nu” (Hanazakarino Kimitachihe) comes along.

The plot is simple. Ruixi was infatuated with an outstanding high jumper – Quan. She has decided to disguise as a boy and enrolled into the same school as Quan. Later, she ended up as the room mate of Quan. This started a series of adventures of her trying to hide her gender among the guys, totally oblivious to the fact that Quan has already discovered her secret.

It is a light-hearted show with very exaggerating performances by the characters who have very distinct personalities. For instance, Ruixi always has a forlorn look on her face when she looks at Quan. Xiuyi is kind-hearted and loyal friend but is full of stupid ideas who never fail to bring a smile to one’s face. There is also Da Shu who forever talks about seeing and sensing paranormal beings. Dr Mei Tian and his nephew - Liang Si Nan are the deep characters within the show where one cannot clearly define if they should be the good or bad guys.

When the series first started, I have liked Xiuyi more than Quan for Xiuyi’s candour, humour and unrighteousness. However, as the show progresses, Quan becomes more and more adorable for his sensitivity and protection over Ruixi. Ruixi remains the heart and soul of the series with her kind-heartedness and her devotion to Quan. More importantly, her courage to do so much for Quan also wins admiration from the viewers.

Now, this has become my Number 1 must-watch show.
