This was the first time we have ever asked to be on standby. In view of the more intense timelines for the budget exercise this year, the bosses would be back in office to review with CFO on Sunday. In case, there were specific questions that our bosses needed help, we would be called upon to explain and investigate.
Standby seemed to apply to more IS personnels rather than people working in Finance. We were all puzzled with what we needed to do when we were on standby. Did this mean we have to come to office and wait? Did this mean we have to stay at home and switch on our PC during the standby hours?
Finally, we clarified. The meaning of standby was for us to just be contactable and preferably with our PCs around to check or to help with more detailed questions.
I was fortunate not to be called during the standby period, but some of my colleagues were made to work over that weekend.
