Breakfast at BottleTree

The last time I was at Bottle Tree, I only took a very short walk in the park and without patronising the restaurant since it looked like an expensive seafood restaurant. This time round, I am really here for food. My mum heard from her friends that they served pretty decent and affordable fried bee hoon for breakfast, so we decided to try out this place to have a taste of eating in a kampung setting.

Well, the bee hoon is certainly a disappointment. It is certainly more than made up for by the park itself. We are greeted by many fishermen when we walk around the pond. One of the skilled fishermen has caught quite a big fish. There are also many familiar tropical fruit trees such as the durian, rambutans, jackfruit and even bomb trees. Lotus is also blooming in the pond. Freshly plucked vegetables are also on sale.

It is an educational eco walk especially for the city kids who have grown up in HDB flats. The only durians, rambutans and jackfruits we know are often those which are wrapped in styrofoam boxes on the supermarket shelves. Hence, it is pretty exciting to see them still stuck to their branches as whole fruits, even though we are quite nervous when we are walking under the durian trees. For those of you who are wondering why. Durians drop onto the ground when they are ripe. As durians are not small and they quite a spiky shell, the impact of it hitting any part of the body is unimaginable.

For those who like to get close to nature once in a while, Bottle Tree is a good venue. Unfortunately, the two Bottle Tree parks are both found in the north (one in Yishun and the other in Sembawang). The one in Yishun is more accessible because it is only a short walk from Khatib Train Station. If you can afford the time and want a more novel place to spend a weekend, Bottle Tree may offer an option.
